If you are unfamiliar with the tenant registration process by the Punjab Police, this article is for you. Here, we will explain why tenant verification by the Punjab Police is necessary and how you can register yourself as a tenant at a police station. You will also learn how the online tenant registration process works.

Need of Tenant Registration for Police Verification

After a surge in terrorist activities in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, the country’s largest province, the Punjab government enacted “The Punjab Information of Temporary Residents Act 2015.” This law makes it mandatory for landlords, tenants, and property dealers to register the details of the rented property, tenant, and owner at the relevant police station.

Methods of Tenant Registration for Police Verification

A tenant can choose one of the following methods for police verification:

  1. Visit the concerned police station
  2. Visit a Police Khidmat Markaz

Once the police complete the verification process, they will issue a Tenant Registration Certificate. This document helps citizens avoid unnecessary inconveniences during search operations or security checks.

Processing Fee for Tenant Verification

There is no processing fee for submitting the Tenant Verification Form. If any police station demands an illegal fee for tenant registration, you can file a complaint through the Punjab Police website or at the Police Khidmat Markaz.

Online Tenant Registration Process

To register a tenant online, the required documents must be submitted to the concerned police station. The police will then enter the tenant’s details into their system. Within 15 to 20 minutes, an attested copy of the Karaya Dari Form will be issued to the tenant. The original documents will be returned to the property owner, while a copy will be kept at the police station for record-keeping.

What to Do If a Tenant Vacates the Property?

If a tenant decides to vacate the rented property, they must visit the same police station where their Karaya Dari Form was registered and request cancellation of their tenant registration. After processing, the police will issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC). If the tenant moves to a new rental property, they must undergo the police verification process again, following the same procedure.

Currently, tenants must visit the Public Facilitation Center located at F-6/1, Islamabad, or the nearest Model Police Station, such as Ramna, Aabpara, Shalimar, Kohsar, Secretariat, I-9, or Margalla, to complete the registration process.

    • If the owner is far away then either the property agent or the tenant can complete this procedure. However, the owner has to sign the form and the remaining documents are the same.

  2. If a tenant doesn’t submit the required documents of rent registration fees then would it be considered that the landlord of property is also involved in it? If a tenant shows intention to get a portion for family requirement but runs the illegal activities like brothle, drugs supply or any other illegal activity then, what should the other tenant do for his safety living in the same proprty in other portion?
